'Wellington's average Return: "' There were 509,880 bales of wool ofr fered at the New Zaland wool sales durr ing the twelve months ended 30th June, and of these 475,574 bales were sold. The authority for these figures and those that follow is the New Zealand Wogl Committee. The average price per bale was £16 10s lOd, or an average price per pound of 10.4 d. The highest price per ponpd for the year was realised at Christ? church on 2prd January, viz., 15.9 M pr. sa.y, 16d; 3pd the lowest at Wanganui. on 2?nd July, yiz., 4.17 d. Both the state of the market at the time of the sale, and the character of the wool has to be taken into account.' The greater part of the wool grown in the Dominion is jnecliuni to inferior crossbred, but the majority pf the wpojs offered in the §outh Islanl are the finer (sorts. Wellington is a good point from which to estimate the value of the New Zaland clip as a whole, inasmuch as the wool coming into this; market is fully representative, including some of the .finest of the Marlborpugh and West Coast merinos, the very best Qf the halfbreds, and some limited quantities of Southdown wopl. There is also much rough'and-low quality crossbred wool coming into this centre.
