WANGANUI, 16th July. An important conference was held this morning, when delegates from the Waimarino and Wanganui districts met to discuss what measures should be taken to complete the Para Para road. Tha value of the road was emphasised by all the speakers, arid it was pointed out that only eleven miles required to be completed to bring Wanganui and Raetihi within about three hours' distance of each other. Wanganui, with a deepsea harbour, a work which is practically an accomplished fact, is the natural outlet for the rich Waimarino .district. It was declared that, the produce of that district could be put on board a ship more cheaply at Wanganui than at any other port in the Dominion. ,

The road, it was pointed out, was a national highway, by reason of the large area which it would open up and feed, and therefore should be completed by the Government. It was resolved that Parliamentary representatives of the districts should be asked to use every endeavour to have the road included in the schedule of main roads under the Highways Act, and that a deputation representative of all the local bodies present proceed to Wellington to interview the Government on these matters.

Great, enthusiasm was manifested, and there was a general indication of determination to get. completed a national work which has been hanging fire for forty years. ; .:•...
