INTERESTING APPOINTMENT
COMMONWEALTH'S ATTITUDEv

MELBOURNE, This Day. Herr W. . Busing has been appointed German Cousul-General for the Commonwealth. This is the first Consular appointment from the enemy countries for Australia since the war. Herr Busing was selected by the German Government and appointed through the Secretary of State for the ,Colonies, after consultation with the Commonwealth. Government, which indicated that it would raise no objection to the re-establish-, ment of former enemy Consulates, but reserved the right to object to.any particular appointment, whether in an honorary capacity or as Consul de Carriere. No information has been obtained concerning Herr Busin's qualifications, but the Commonwealth, is satisfied with the assurance of the Secretary of State as to his suitability. His jurisdiction extends over' Australia, New Zealand Ne\v^ Guinea, Fiji, and other Pacific islands.
