CO-OPERATIVE BUILDING SOCIETY

The third annual meeting of the Wellington Co-operative Building Society was held at the Accountants' Chambers on Thursday evening; there was a fair attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted unanimously. The accounts for the year ended aOth April last showed that the total receipts for the year amounted to £6047 2s sd, including subscriptions £4986 12s 6d. The total appropriations tor the twelve months were £6000, and the amount advanced on mortgage at the end of the year was £13,402 4s 7d. Working expenses totalled £320 10 s 5d and the profit for the year was £215 0s sd. It was proposed to reduce the levies to two shillings per share per annum. Surprise was expressed at the apathy of the Wellington public towards this form of thrift, as compared with its popularity in other centres. A new group will be opened shortly if sufficient support is assured.
