Ac articlo recently appeared in the "Chambers Journal," Edinburgh, entitled "The Extinction of the Moa in New Zealand," written by-Lieut-Colonel J Sleeman. "A ratlicr interesting letter thereon was subsequently received by the High Commissioner for New Zealand; the Hon. Sir James Allen, from Mr. Charles Huniiybun, who wrote, as follows:—"Colonel Sleeman quotes a Maori proverb, 'Moa kai hau,' indicating that the moa always seemed to have its head in the air eating- wind.
