PUBLIC EXAMINATION
BANKRUPT AT COURT
The affairs of Ormond Herbert Brightwell, bankrupt, ivei'e gone into at a public examination at the Supreme Court yesterday before the Registrar (Mr. W. A. Hawkins). Mr. H. F. yon Haast represented bankrupt, Mr. D. S. Smith represented the principal creditors (Messrs. A. Hatrick and Co.), and Mr. G. J. J. Feil represented Messrs. C. J. 'Ward and Co. The public examination was the outcome of a recommendation at the meeting of creditors.
The Official Assignee (Mr. S. Tansley) reported at length on the affairs of bankrupt, who was adjudicated bankrupt in _ November last on the petition of the principal creditors, while Brightwell wa> still an undischarged bankrupt, having filed in Auckland in- 1915. The liabilities in the present case were £487 3s 7d, and the assets £151 3s Bankrupt, in January, 1921, went into ' partnership with one Frederick A. Neilson, and conducted the business as the Firestone Tire Depot. Neilson later withdrew, but Hatrick and Co. were not advised. In July last bankrupt hod two fires in his premises, having previously had one at his private residence. Immediately after the second fire Hatrick and Co. went into the position, and then found, there was a considerable discrepancy between the stock on the premises and what should have been there. The bank passbook had disappeared, and there was an absence of a cash book and of a petty cash book, which made it impossible to obtain a proper statement of affairs.
