PETONE TECHNICAL SCHOOL

The monthly meeting of the Petone Technical School was held last evening. Present:' Mr. D- M'Kenzie (chairman), and Messrs. A. Pere, J. J. Lewthwaite, W. Hay, G. London, and W. B. Nicholson. ' Mr. Scott was permanently appointed to the position of instructor to the building construction and drawing class. It was decided to send- tho Education Board a request for the payment of a rental for the use of the technical school building by scholars of the District High School. It was pointed out that if 'the building was not available, the rental of a suitable building would entail the payment of a large sum annually by the Education Board, and as the maintenance of the building was borne entirely by the technical school managers it was only just that a grant should be made for the use of the building during the day by the D.H. School. It-was also decided to ask'the D.H. School Committee for a contribution towards the cost of cleaning the building, in consideration of the fact that the day scholars use the building to an equal extent with the technical school scholars. The director was requested to write to various local firms for donations towards the funds of -the school. The director reported that the finances of the school needed considerable assistance, and that the Education Board still held £52 10s which should undoubtedly be paid over to the s'chool.
