gi I . ] May I endorse the complaint about the treatment of_ overseas news; paper mails published in your "local" column to-night? The other day European mails arrived in Auckland at..daybreak on Friday, and the final delivery of-my newspaper mail was made in Wei- ■ lington- on-the following Wednesday morninc. taking almost a week to reach me. The. explanation given by the Chief ' Postmaster was thai- newspaper mails, .being "second clasp" mail matter, were forwarded by slow- trains. These, lam informed elsewhere, stop at every station to shunt; goods, and altogether, on Sunday. It is instructive to realise, the value put in New Zealand upon the latest news from Australia, America, and Europe, and where it- is classed by thn local authorities, and one really wonders, why lat-ge subsidies are paid to facilitate its 'pßsaa^e to New Zealand by soa. —I am, etc., ' ALEC P.
