OHRISTCHURCH, 31st Jan.

At the Aldington market to-day fat lambs and pigs increased in value, while fat sheep values were maintained. Prices for fat cattle, however, showed a reduction.

Store Sheep:, The yarding was large, drafts being sent forward from Nelson, Marlborough, and the/ JWest Coast. There was an exceptionally keen demand for lambs, which realised - high prices. Ewes also were in demand. Forward four, six, and eight-tooth wethers made 28s 6d to 29s 7d: ordinary, B6s to 28s;. forward two-tooth wethers. 29s 2d to 31s; ordinary, 26s 6d to ' 28s; good rape lambs, 23s 6d to 25s Id; ordinary, 21s 6d to 23s 3d; small and inferior, 15s 6d to 21s. Four, six, and eight-tooth ewes made 30s 6d to 36s 3d; six-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes, 375; two-tooth crossbred ewes, 28s 6d to 33s 6d-; failing-mouthed ewes, 20s to 27s 6d; low-conditioned and failing-mouthed ewes, 17s 3d to 19s 6d; aged ewos, 12s 6d to 17s.

Fat lambs: A yarding of 4066, compared with 4640 last week. Freezing buyers got the majority of the yarding at prices' which were from Is to Is 6d per head better thun the previous market. On the average, freezing works buyers paid from 10id to 10jd per lb. Graziers competed for light,lambs, but generally found prices too^high for them. Extra prime lambs made 33s 6d to 38s 10d'; prime, 30s to 335; medium, 28s to 29s 9d; light and unfinished! 24s 9d to 27s 6d.

Fat cheep: The yarding was again, small. The sale opened briskly, prices being all round about on a par with last week. Wethers were perhaps slightly better, and ewes were slightly easier. Wether mutton made from 6£d. to 6£d per lb. and ewe from sfd to 6id. Extra prime wethers realised 37s to 40s, and a few special, 43s 9d; prime. 34s to 36s 6d;. medium, 28s 6d to 33s 6d: light, 25s Id to 275". Extra prime ewes, 30s 6d -to 35s lOd; prime, 28s td to 30s; medium, 25s to 28s; light, 23s to 24s 9d; aged, 17s 9d to 22s 6d.

Fat cattle : The yarding was large. The hot spell of weather had an adverse .effect on the- sale, particularly with regard to heavier stuff, and prices dropped all round 20s per head. Wejlfinished beaf made from 27s 6d to 30a per 1003b; medium, 24s 6d to 275;, ufc finished, 21s to 23s 6d,'; old cow beef, to 20s. Extra prime steers realised £14 5s to £16 j prime, £10 17s 6d to' £13 15s; medium, £8 15s to £10 10s; light and unfinished, £4 15s to £8. Prime" heifers, £6 15s to £7 17s 6d; ordinary, £4 10s to £6.' Prime cc-ws, £6 to £7-17s 6d; ordinary, £4 to £5 155.. . •Vealers: Last week's values were fully maintained. Good runners, £4 12s 6d;ordinary/vealers, £2 17s 6d to £4-; small calves, 8s upwards.

Store cattle-: A large yarding and keen competition. Values wefle improved. Four-year-old steers made £6 10s to £7; three-year-old, £5 15s to £6 16s; two-year-old, £3. 10s to £4 ss; yearlings, £1 5s to £1 12s 6d. Two-year-old heifers £4 5s to £4 15s; yearlintrs, £2 15s to £2 17s 6d. Good cows, £2 2 S 6d to £2 12s 6d; medium cows, £1 to £1 10s.

Dairy cattle: "Values were maintained. Extra good second, third, aad fourth calvers, springing, made £11 10s; good second, third, and fourth calvers, £8 to £9; medium second, third, and fourth calvera, £5 10s to £7 10s: \ sprin^ne heifers, £4 to £8. - «- « «

Fat pigs: A good demand, resulted in improved prices. Choppers made £1 Kte to £3; light baconers, £3 7a 6d to £3 18s; heavy, £4 to £4 8s 6d (average price per Ib, 6d to 6£d); light porkers, £2 5s to £2 12s; heavy. £2 15s to £3 (average price per lb, 7d to B£d). Store pigs: These sold .better m sympathy with the price of bacon pigs. jveO-jjrown pigs rose by from 5s to os per head. Large stores made 48s; medium, 35s to 40s; small, 28s to 345; extra fjood weaners, 225; ordinary weaners, 14a 6d to 18s.
