SUPER COMFORT LINER.
Designed for round-the-world holiday cruises ac, well as for regular service between fixed ports; the Franconja, the [ninth of the Cunard Company's post-war vessels^ was launched at Clydetisk' recently." The vessel was built by John Brown and Co. She was christened by Lady Royden, wife of the chairman of the company. The Frapconia has many improvements even on the magnificent Aquitania and Berengaria. Perhaps the most- attractive feature is the smokeroom, planned on the lines of a comfortable old English inn, complete even to an inglenook. It is constructed in oak, with mellow brick and tile work, and pewter drinking vessels, flagons, and "churchwarden. pipes. The cardroom with which.the vessel is fitted is said to have been necessary because, ladies have invaded, the smokeroonw,-. up to the present devoted to cards. ' They resent the silence regulations. An area of 6000 square feet has been allocated to tb"e swimming pool, gymnasium, 'and squash racquets courts. The pool iwill be larger than on the Aquitania, .and longer than the Berengaria's. The'laundry is to be fitted with all the latest electrically driven appliances, capable of washing thousands of articles daily; The company told its guests and friends at the ■ ceremony recently that it is ; the finest of its kind afloat. Of 20,000 gross tonnage,-the Franconia will have accommodation for 750 saloon and secondclass ' passengers ■ and 1000 third : class. Third-class passengers will for the ririost part occupy cabins with two or 'four berths, and will find ample provision for recreation.
