HOSPITAL NURSES
SUCCESSFUL IN STUDIES.
It was reported to the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday afternoon that all the nurses (13) who sat for the. last State examinations had passed. Four of them gained over 75 per cent, marks. ' The lack of a technical library in.the Nurses' Home was noted by the board. "Text-books for nurses are now more numerous, more comprehensive, and more expensive," reported the committee chairman. There, are various books of reference a nurse should have at her disposal while training, but which few nurses can afford- to purchase. I would suggest that a scheme be inaugurated by which each nurse contributes, say, 2s per annum to a common fund, the board to subsidise £1 for £1, this fund to purchase text-hooks' lor the general use of nurses, and these books to be kept in the home under the charge of the home sister, who would issue them to nurses on rei quest for a definite period. "If such a scheme were started to-day 'about £12 would'be collected from nurses, and if the board made a similar grant £24 .would be ;in hand to form the nucleus of a library. Additions'could be made each year as subscriptions were .collected:' This -scheme has not been submitted to the nursing staff." This' was approved by the board.
