CHATHAM ISLANDERS' FRANCHISE.

Chatham Islands are part of New .> Zealand, but the inhabitants do not share in the privilege of electing members of Parliament. This disadvantage was mentioned by Mr. G. Witty to the Government in the House yesterday, arid ha suggested that the Chat-hams be'attached to Lyttelton. for electoral purposes, as his constituency,' though not so near as Napier, was the usual • port of call for vessels ..from the Islands.

Mr. Massey said ha tad already been considering the question in view.-.of the coming General Election. Personally, he

thought the natives on the Chathams should have a vote for one of the native members, while the Europeans should go on to some European electoral roll. He was consulting the electoral officer on the subject, and thought Xyttelton would be the most suitable conBtifctency to utilise for the purpose.
