There was an attendance of over eighty residents at the iiiaugiiral meeting df the Belmont Progressive Association, hsVd in the local churchroom on Saturday oven-'----ing. The following officers were elected : Patron, Hon. Sir Maui Pomare;. : president,- -'Mr.; A. Campbell j ■ yice;preisidents, Dr. Giosen, Messrs, J. J. \BeicK and P. Speedy; committee,' Messrs. Andrews, Dagger, Mason, Natusch, Payne, .^ and Phillips; ■ treasurer, Mr.. Foster; secretary, Mr. Godwin.. !" :.. Several , speakers' stressed the urgent need of a : school for the district, and ths desirability-of., a suitable site being at once procured by the Education Board. The danger at" the railway-station at night," Owing to.the absence, of,any light, was .also dwelt upon.', Owing to the, position of the station DuUding all" pas^ have to cross the"line, and the risk of accident is very serious. ••.-:..:...'.;'"■
At the conclusion of the business several musical items were given, under th» direction of Mr. W. Dempster, and refreshments were handed round by tli«i ladies.
