RELIEF WORKS
MORE MEN TAKEN ON.
Work was commenced, to-day upon the widening of the road running along Mount Victoria ridge from Constablestreet, and' twelve men were put on to the job. The road will be widened to 40ftj and eventually will be.extended so as to junction with Victoria-road at Roseneath.
Forty men are now engaged on the construction of the new road to Khandallah, and another ten will probably be taken on this week.
A start will be made to-morrow with the widening of Evans Bay-road, on which /work ten men will be employed in the first instance.
On all the City Council's relief works preference is being given to married men. . . r
The Mayor acknowledges the receipt of £15 from the. Tramways Band, being the amount collected at the concert in Newtown Park on Sunday last for tne unemployed fund.
