TELEPHONE CHARGES

INTRODUCING NEW SYSTEM.

"Is it intended to act upon the report of the Chief Telegraph Engineer, and introduce the zone system of telephone charges?" asked Mr. G. W. Forbes (Hurunui) in the House of Bepresentatives yesterday. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G, Coates) said he had received the final ■reports now, and would have to place them before Cabinet with his recommendations. A very complete system of charges had been drawn up. It would give a measure of relief to /some subscribers, and would be, fairer, than the present system; but he could not give particulars till the proposals had been considered by Cabinet.
