PLAY AREA

THE CHILDREN'S APPEAL.

There was a large and enthusiastic meeting of ladies willing to assist in connection with the. Street Day, to be held on Friday, Wth July, in aid of the children's play area, which the Boys' Institute is promoting on the ground in front of the Hospital. Mr. G. A. Troup occupied the chair, and explained the steps to be taken to raise the £1000 required. He was; sure that .this effort would make a.special appeal to the generosity of the citizens. Offers of assistance have been received from the country districts. There will he 18 stalls for the street appeal, and each assistant would be supplied with a distinguishing badge.

Mr. Butler stated that a procession of school children will march from Veitch and Allan's corner to the Post Office-square, headed by the Institute Brass Band; where a community "sing" will take place at 12.30. Another "sing" will be held at the King's Theatre at the samo time. Mr. Walter Fuller had kindly offered his theatre for a matinee.

The central depot will be at Messrs. Bethune'6 auction rooms, entrance via Brandon-street. Given a fine day, there is every promise of the Street Day being a great success.
