(■Received July 8, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, 7th July. Queen Alexandra witnessed the tennis at Wimbledon to-day. Before the gates opened, there was a queue a mile long. Lycett beat Gilbert, 8-6, 9-7, 6-3, after a long-drawn struggle, unmarked by brilliance on either side.
Owing to the rain, tho match between Patterson and Anderson was postponed till to-morrow.
Gilbert beat Mavrogordato, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. He will meet Lycett in the semi-final.
Anderson is a strong favourite for the championship. Most critics forecast that _ his quieter method is likely to give him a comfortable victory over Patterson's more spectacular and slashing style.
In the men's doubles, Anderson and Lycett defeated Bisseker and Hillyard, ,6-1. 6-2, 6-3.
