DEALING WITH ROUGH PLAY.

The suspension of three players by the Management Committee this week should act as a further warning that fistic encounters on tlie field of play do not come under the heading of football. "You must understand that there is to be no scrapping on the field,"'said the chairman (Mr. J. Prendeville) in addressing one offender. ''We, get.complaints about rough play through the press and from other sources, and we have got to see that it stops. Half the spirit of the game is to control your temper, even if you do get a bump. . . .' We are not going to. have these friendly boxing bouts on tho field. If you want to have a 'go' there is a time and place for it." There were instances last Saturday of something more than hard play on the part of some seniors, but fortunately for those players responsible thoy were not observed by tho ■ referee. ;

Mr. Jackson's proposal regarding the appointment of a judicial committee received a fair amount of support at this week's meeting of the W.R.U. Management Committee, but, for various reasons,, a majority of members did not support the motion. The time, some members thought, was not opportune, but there appeared to be a much stronger feeling. than in previous years, when the present chairman (Mr. J. Prendeville) has raised the question, that the matter might well be discussed by delegates. It is probable that a move to bring the matter under tho notice of delegates will be made before the annual meeting or prior to any special meeting which may be called. The business connected with the administration of Rugby football i_ steadily increasing, and tho judicial side of the work ' could,' with advantage, be allocated to a special committee.
