JASCHA SPIVAKOVSKY.
[ The brilliant Russian pianist, Jascha [ Spivakovsky, will give his first concert iin Wellington in the Town Hall on Saturday, 22nd July, under the direction of J. C. Williamson, Ltd.; Other concerts will be given, the dates of these being 25th and 26th July. Jascha Spivakovsky commenced playing in Odessa when five years of age, He later went to Berlin, where he studied under Professor MayerMahryof the Klindworth-Schairwenka Conservatory. He was able to continue his musical studies during the war, and he has recently completed tours of England, the Continent, .and Australia. Wherever he has played he has won immediate popularity, and critics have given him extremely high praise. He was recognised by London critics as being in the first rank of pianists, while his amazing technical skill, thorough musicianship, maturity of intellect, and extensive repertoire are said to have aroused astonishment everywhere. Throughout his Australian tour, which is said to have been something in the nature of a triumph, Spivakovsky aroused great enthusiasm, which culminated at his final, concerts in remarkable demonstrations. He is an artist who should prove greatly to the liking of Dominion music-lovers. The box plans for the. Wellington concerts will ■be ,opened _it the-'Bristol-on Thursday, 20th July.
