GAMECOCK WINS THE CUP.
GREYMOUTH, 4th January. Glorious weather prevailed for the second day of the Greymouth Jockey Club's Meeting. , There was a large attendance. The totalisator handled £13,119, compared with £15,954 on the corresponding day last year. Eesults :— Greymouth Cup, of 300 soys; one mile and a-quarter.—Gamecock;:' 9.0, 1; Mythology, 9.6, 2; Cheer Up, 8.9, 3. Also started : Counter Attack 19.2, Cave Rock 9.0, Prince Ferouz 8.7, Orange Mart 8.2, Falstaft 8.1, Tiranga 8.1, Marble Bar 7.13. Mythology led into the straight, where Gamecock challenged and won by a head, with Cheer Up three lengths away third. Prince Ferouz fell, his rider (Stratton) being severely bruised and having to be sent to the hospital. Time, 2min lOsec.
