LONDON, 21st- December.

The King gave an audience to the Japanese commercial mission. He recalled happy recollections of his visit to Japan forty years, ago, and said he was delighted that his son was about to visit their great country, "endeared to ; us by many ties of friendship and alliance." He hoped the mission would be successful in mutual endeavours to hasten the transition to normal trading conditions so much desired by all the nations of the earth.
