RECAPTURE OF A PRISONER

AUCKLAND, 24th September. The escaped prisoner, George Caffrey, ilais Johnstone, was captured by Constable Clifford in an hotel this afternoon. The constable was in the bar of the hotel when he noticed a man answering C»ffrey's description at the counter. The man was wearing a brown suit, and \»s obviously sure that he was dear of the police. Constable Clifford went up to him and invited him to leturn to the police station. ,He protested, and Constable Allen was called in. Caffrey then submitted and went with them.
Caffrey made a sensational «so»pe from a moving'train on Saturday, 27th August. The train was near Parnell tunnel when the prisoner, who is a quarter-caste Norfolk Islander, jumped through the lavatory window. The constable escorting him went back to the tunnel when the escape wag noticed, but the prisoner wai clear, and was not seen during the thres weeks preceding his recapture to-day.
