Moran as Vice-Consul for the United States.of America at Wellington. V. ■A,motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. J. E. Stansell was passed at the meeting of the Lyall Bay Electors' Association on Thursday. The -late Mr. Stansell had always taken a deep interest in affairs concerning Lyall Bay., . '• ■ i On the occasion of his departure to Hamilton, Mr. Angus M. Nicholson, who has been promoted to the accountancy of the' National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., at that place, was yesterday the recipient of a handsome suit-cas* and a gold-mounted walking-stick presented by the staff of the local branch. ] ■ The Hon. ,M. Cohen and Mrs. Cohen, Mr. and Mrs. C.i S. Sniith (of Dunedin), and Mr., Mrs., and Miss W. B. Kettle (of Greymouth), delegates to the forthcoming World's Press Congress at Honolulu, passed through. Wellington yesterday en route to join the Makura, which j leaves Auckland for Vancouver on Tuesday next. On the eve of his departure to Auckland, whither he has been transferred, Mr. J. O'Brien, head messenger at the Government Buildings, ? was presented with a pocket wallet and an address from his friends at the Buildings. In making the presentation^ Mr. F. Fama spoke of the very happy relations which had existed between Mr. O'Brien and all who came under his direction. Mr. Alfred John Cross, of Norman-dale-street, Lower Hutt, died this morn-v ing at the Wellington Hospital after, a short illness. The late Mr. Cross joined the Public Trust Office in 1885, and during his long career with that institution held various responsible positions, in^ eluding that of assistant local deputy public (trustee at Auckland and district manager at Gisborne. Mr. Cross was recently transferred to the Wellington' district office as senior estates adminis-, tration clerk. The late Mr. Cross, who was an extremely popular' office and of a mosf retiring disposition, is survived by his widow and five children.
