THE COMPETITIONS
MUSIC, SONG, AND DANCE
LAST EVENING'S FINALS.
The programme, of finals at the Competitions last evening drew a very big house to the Town Hall, and rightly so, since several pa.rticula.rjy entertaining classes -were contested. The chief piano solo is the big contest in the instrumental section of the competitions, and good work indeed was done. Thle test set was "Scherzo," from B flat minor sonata, (Chopin), a difficult and delightful composition, and the readings given were of a very satisfactory standard. The winner, Mr. E. F. Tanner, gained! a substantial lead in points, for his interpretation was soulful, and his execution' remarkably fine. The three sets of' debaters who took part in am impromptu argument on the subject, of "Should Women Propose," provided the audience | with quite a lot to "laugh at and a minimum to think over. A couple of ballets and several dancing numbers added to the pleasing variety of the programme. . . Further results are :— Sacred Solo, Baritone or Bass. Own selection :, R.
