The Minister of Health has approved of the appointment of Major' D. F. Myers as radiologist on "the Wellington Hospital staff. Dr. R. A. Cameron, whose, term of service ends this month, has been appointed consulting radiologist on the honorary staff. ;

A resolution of condolence with; the widow of the late Mr., H. A. Smithson, for thirteen years a member of the teaching staff of, Wellington- College, was passed by the Wellington College Governors this morning. The governors also expressed high appreciation of the servicesof the late • Mr. Smitbson. ' '-,-■

A motion of sympathy with the rela-J tives of the late Mr. J. G. W. Aitken was passed at the monthly meeting-of the St.' John Ambulance Association's Committee last ni^ht. The death of Mr, Aitken was also referred' to at this morning's meeting of the Wellington College Governors, s and on the motion' of Mr. W. F. Ward (chairman) the governors placed on record their appreciation of the services rendered to the cause of education by the deceased gentleman. ,

The funeral of the late Corporal D. P. Fitzgerald, N.Z.A.O. Corps, took place yesterday. Deceased, when a member of, the Marlborough Mounted Rifles, joined the Fourth. New Zealand Contingent, and served throughout the South African War, receiving the Queen's and King's Medals. Afterwards -he joined the Defence Stores, where he was'universally esteemed. The funeral, which was a military one, the firing party being under the command of Lieutenant Gossett, was largely attended. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Father Smyth. Much sympathy is felt for • his widow and relatives.

Mr. Alfred Arnaud Morris M(KeUar died at his residence, Riccarton, on Monday night, at,the age of 85 years. Mr. M'Kellar came to-New Zealand in the barque St. Michael, which arrived at New Plymouth on 2nd December, 1852. With his brothers he took up land in Taranaki, and later fought in thelMaori war from its outbreak in 1860, having the rank of captain,in the New Zealand Militia. ' He' went to Christchurch in 1863, joining the 'C.V.C. when Sir Cracroft Wilson was in charge. He went to Timaru in the early 'seventies, and returned to. Christchufch in 1878, practising as a public accountant, and was one of the foundation members of the Ne^ Zealand Institute of Accountants. He ; ■was secretary of the Blackball Coal Company from its inception, and held the position for about twenty years. He leaves a widow and a family of threeMessrs. Arnaud M'Kellar (general manager of the Blackball Coal Company), Cecil George M'Kel'ar (accountant, of Christchurch), and Mrs. S, G. Rutherford, of Kowai Bush.
