DELHI, 24th August. The proclamation of martial law had. a sobering effect in the Ernad district, but the situation is still very grave. A state of open rebellion exists in certain areas. The military dispositions are proceeding expeditiously. Mr. Austin Joint,; the Magistrate at. Malapuram, has been murdered. A detachment of the Leinster Regiment is missing. The rebels, who are all Moslems, have made some captures of amis.
