THE DERBY RACE
A BATTLE ROYAL.

LONDON, Ist June. Donoghue rode Humorist, the winner of the Derby. The start was delayed for twenty minutes, owing to the tape being broken three times. Alan Breck immediately took charge, with Leighton and the three placed horses always, within striking distance. Humorist and Craig an Eran, two furlongs from home, challenged resolutely, and Alan Breck failed to sustain it. Thereafter there was a battle royal between the first and second horses. Leighton finished fifth.
