THE TERRACE.

The Terrace School Committee records with the deepest regret the death of Mr. G«orge MacMorran, and writes : "It is not too much to say that it has been: largely due to his personality atid the high ideals that he instilled 1 into both teacher and scholar .that The Terrace School obtained the reputation it holds in the city to-day. No better tribute could be found than the large number of children attending the school whoso parents were former pupils, l and to whom distance does not prove any obstacle, in order that they may benefit by tho atmosphere created and left by 'Mr. MacMorran and his able teachers diuring somany years. This atmosphere has now become part of tiie school, and we trust it will remain a legacy to the'future generation of. pupils." A compfoint is made as to the unsuitability of certain of the school desks. The committee has repeatedly reminded the board that the desks, which have been on order for over a year, have not been received. The delay is reported to be owing to the difficulty in obtaining seasoned_'. timber. Kindergarten tables and chairs and mats have been provided for the infant department. The heating of two of the classrooms during the winter months has not been at all satisfactory, and the committe©, with the assistance of a report from Dr. Paterson, made strong representations to the board on the matter. The attention of the new committee is directed to this subie<j£> foi- no improvement has been made. The -utmost .harmony has existed between, the.head-master (Mr. D. E. Leslie), his staff, and the committee, states the report, and the committee 'wishes to place on record its appreciation of the good work done at the school.
