ANZAC MEMORIAL SERVICE

SIMPLE BUT SOLEMN CEREMONY.

One of the most solemn days of the year for. a long time to come in the Dominion 'will be Anzac Day—a day recalling the self-sacrifice of co many of the best and bravest who fought and died for their,, country in the great war. The ceremony takos place on Monday next.

In Wellington, on this'occasion, the children's part in the day's proceedings will take the form of a gathering of Standards IV., V., and VI., of all the city public schools, and all private schools andl colleges are cordially invited to take part. The executive arrangements have been entrusted to Mr. Foster, of Clyde-quay, chairman of the Headmaster's' Association, who ha« been appointed chief marshal. The chief marshal will receive the assistance of the whole staff of every school, and the. School Committees' Association has offered every assistance in its power. The celebration will be before the cenotaph of the Returned Soldiere' Association, liambton-quay, opposite the Government Buildings. ;

There wreaths borne by representative scholars from each school will bo laid at the foot of the cenotaph, and at 11 o'clock sharp a brief, simple service will be hekl Tramway traffic will meanwhile be suspended.' . . ■ '

The arrangements for the service and for the receipt and transfer of the floral offerings to the graves' at .Karori are in the hands of the W.N.R. Girls' Club, the members of whioh have earned the gratitude of the community by- their fine devotion to the care of the Boldiers' graves. Wreaths from country friends will be carried free by rail, if addressed "Flowers for Soldiers' Graves,- care of the Secretary, W.N.R. Girls' Club, 157, Fea-thoreton-st., Wellington." Detachments of boys will receive them at each station on Monday at 10 a.m. At the request of the chairman of the Education Board, the Mayor has consented to provide cars, both inward and outward, for the exolusive use oft scholars and adults in charge. A uniform return fare is being charged for any distance., and, as the oars will be orowded, oollec-' tion beforehand by the teaohers will be appreciated. The children will be returned to the suburbs immediately after the ceremony.

Complete arrangements have been made for tho Memorial Service, which is to.be held in the Town Hall on Anzac Day, Monday; 25th April,' at 3 p.m. The Rev. T. Fielden-Taylor will cenduct the service, and Major F. W. Burton (Salvation Army), Ray. F. T. Read (Methodist), Rev. .J. M'Kenzio (Presbyterian), •Rev. H. Van Staveren (Jewish) will take part. Mr. Bernard Page (City Organist) will preside at the organ, and the Salvation Army Silver Band will play, Chopin's Funeral March and the "Dead March." The soloist at this service will be, as Jast year, Miss Eileen Driscoll, who will sing Handel's "0, Rest in the Lord.'^ Next of-kin and relatives of deceased soldiers may obtain tickets of admission from Mr. R. J. F. Aldrich, secretary, Wellington R.S.A., at the association's offieo, in Brandonstreet. Only ticket-holders will be admitted up to 2.45 p.m., after that time no seats will be reserved, and the available ppace will be free to the general public. On the Sunday preceding Anzac Day a combined veterans' service will be held in Sit. Mark's Church. Maori War veterans, South African war veterans, and returned soldiers will take part. The order of parade will be'band, Maori War veterans, , South African War veterans, and returned soldiers. The service v is' to be held at 3 p.m.
