CONGRESS REDUCES ITS SIZE.
; WASHINGTON, 18th Jan. .Congress passed a joint resolution reducing the standing, army to 175,000, after the Senate had reconsidered' its recent action iimiting the force to 150,000. It is uncertain whether President AVilson will sign the resolution.
[The National Defence Act passed by Congress in June, 1916, before the United States entered the war, set the established peace strength of the army at 265,766. Prior to_that it was about 105,000.]
