NOTES FROM TRENTHAM

The weather was dull and threatening at Trentham this morning, and light rain fell at an early. hour, but not sufficient to interfere with the try-outs. The outside of the course proper, the inner trial gallop, and the tan circuit were available to trainers. The tan gallop was dead and holding. S. Waddell, V. Collelo, R. Gooseman, G. Price, A. Oliver. W. Donovan, and other over-night arrivals, put in an appearance with their teams." . On the tan Canyon was in front of Sweet Memory at the end of four furlpngs, which took 51 3-ssec. Esnerance did a round, picking' up La Paloma at the six-furlong post, the former, with W. Kitchener (her Cup pilot) up, being slightly ahead at the finish. Bagdad and others did easy pacing on the tan. Wamba (H. ■ Gray) did a round on the inner grass at three-quarter pace. Silver Link trotted once round the tan, and afterwards did a circuit of the inner grass. Early Dawn (R. Reed) was sent a mile on the course proper, but was not extended. Tapairu (R. Reed) slipped over half a mile on the course proper in 50sec. Hallowe'en (Birkenhead—Prologue) was in front of Rimutaka and In the Pink at the end of five furlongs in lmin 3sec. Jackeroo (C. Reed) sprinted down the course proper. ■ Hymestra. was 'out, looking- well, !but was not pitted against the watch. Counter Attack left six furlongs behind in lmjn 17sec. • Maioha was several lengths ahead of Dusky Eve at the end of a mite gallop in lmin 42sec. i Warplane and Parisian Diamond, separately, were worked on the inner grass. . Sandy M'Donald got two lengths' start of Astinome at the five-furlong post, and was a length ahead at the end of the work-out in lmin 3sec. Halifax pleased by finishing in front. of Blackhead, at the end of six furlongs in lmin 17sec. The first-named appears none the worse for the throat operation, judging by the way lie galloped. Going Up slipped over five furlongs in lmin 3sec pleasingly. Eleus (G.isYouns), Idle Talk, and Tenterfield went a circuit of the ■' course proper. Eleus got the best of the jumpout, 1 but was steadied along the bad;. He Avas half a dozen lengths ahead of Idle Talk at the finish. Tenterfield stop-,-ped in the straight, and was^afterwards '. sent another round. Eleus, ran the last'mile in lmin 45 2-ssec. Nobleman (C. Reed), hit out well in a couple of rounds of the tan gallop. From a standing start on the course.; proper, Humbug ran four furlongs in 49sec, Ch-rysostom being about a length away. ■ ' ■ The Bleiiheim two-year-olds, Ditchley and the .Miss Birkenhead colt, were sent half a mile from tho WeUesley start with the barrier. Ditehley had the best of it. Johnny Walker did useful pacing work on tho tan. Asterinat Statuette, and others did easy work. Quest, Tolerance, and Scion were in the order named at the end of a sprint from the half-mile barrier on the course proper. Rational spurted on the inner grass. Royal Exchange (A. Reed) and Winter Wind were together ai the end of six furlongs in lmin 17sec. Royal Stag and Counlerstroke took lmin ssac to \ cover five furlongs. Vespucci was sent a mils and a quarter. Adopted joined in at the six furlongs. They took Imiu 16seo in "the run to the post. - - 80-Peep, Flight Commander, and Falstafr' were in tho order named at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 31sec.
