During the Duke of Connaught's visit to Madras he opened the new Council Chambers. He advised all parties in India to sink their differences, and work for reforms.
_ The Extremists arranged huge processions'and meetings in the city, and. urged the people to boycott .the Duke. The tramwaymen went on strike.
