NEW ZEALAND TEACHERS' TEAM

SYDNEY, 16th January. In a match against the New Zealand teachers' team, Woollongong scored AS and 170, and the New^ Zeuianders o4 and 135 for five wickets. The match was drawn and closes the tour.

The English team's tally for foulwickets is more like that of an All-Eng-land Eleven in a Test match. H. Makepeace, the Lancastrian, came to light in a manner which was badly wanted for his side after the early "dismissal of Hobbs iind Rhodes. F. E. Woolley, the Man of Kent, opened out on the attack, and did not treat with respect A. Mailey, the "bosie" bowler. The Kent professional possesses an easy style, which is delightful'to watch. He" makes his strokes with little effort, and forces a good length ball as well as any player of the present day. Woolley is over-anxious to hit the cover oft the ball, but this is a temptation to a man who possesses such exceptional hitting powers. A. C. Russell (Essex) is long overdue for a Test score, but, unfortunately for liife side to-day, he has to face the music early, which has so far this tour proved the undoing of this player. The outcricket of Pellew, Bardsley, and Taylor on Saturday saved a lot of runs for Aus' tralia, and in this department the Englishmen have not had all their own way. The third Test is creating large interest in this city, and the improved showing of the Home players is considered by all sports to be in the best interests of the game. The Englishmen will have to strain every nerve to put up. a respectable total, as the Colonials msy be relied on to produce their best batting form in the second innings.
