HASTINGS, This Day.

Fruitgrowers in this district suffered severely from Saturday's gale. Orchards were well sheltered in tho direction of the prevailing wind, but this gale came in tho opposite direction, and tho trees, getting tho full force, woro stripped of apples, pears, plums, and poaches to s. considerable extont. Trees wero broken down, and in Eomo cases uprooted. X»arge quantities of fruit are lying on the ground, in many oases not sufficiently matured to be of any good. Tho loss will bo considerable; 'especially on top of the shortage in the season's crops.
