A SERIOUS POSSIBILITY
SUBURBAN DRAINAGE.INDANGER.
The high-level reservoirs at .Melrose, Brooklyn, Roseneath,' and Kelburn are maintained by pumping machinery driven off the city supply. If these reservoirs become empty the- result will be most seriousJ It would hot only mean the almost entire absence of water for domestic purposes, but for drain-flushing, and this, in a ,very little while, would threaten the' health of the city. The authorities, therefore, have wisely decided to utilise the very, small supply of coal they^at present have.for . keeping ( just sufficient power going to work the pumps They will be able to do this for a'day or two, and then will have to scrape around. An endeavour will be made to keep the pumps going at all costs.
