THE SESSION
TO COMMENCE ON 28th AUGUST.
The Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. G. W. Russell) informed a reporter today that Parliament would meet on 28th August for the despatch of business. There has been much speculation as to the length of the session, and the general opinion is that it will be short. There is sufficient business awaiting the attention of Parliament to occupy it for a full usual term of two or three months, but much of. this, though of an important character, and in some cases urgent, can be deferred if the attitude of the parties, or other considerations favour a 6hort session. Finance and_ legislation of a necessary character, mainly arising from the war, will not brook postponement, and it is possible that this will constitute the major part of the business, with such other minor enactments and private measures .of a non-debate-able character. But nothing can be stated with any certainty, emce _ the course to be pursued by the National Government is yet undecided.
