TROUBLESOME BOYS

Several small boys charged v. itln various offences appeared before Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at a sitting of the Juvenile Court to-day.

One lad admitted throwing stones at a railway carriage travelling between Wellington and Ngaio. Amid tears, he said he did not hit the train. "It is sufficient for us to know that you tried toi' said his Worship. Mr. Frazer impressed upon the lad the seriousness of his offence, and discharged him with a caution.

"This boy has been leading the life of a vagrant," was the »tatcinerit made by the police in reference to a lad, thirteen years of age, charged with theft, and also with assaulting a small girl. The boy's, foster mother stated that she received the. child from the Wellington Receiving Home when he was six months old.' He had been a very good boy, but had got into bad company. The case was adjourned in order to give the Probation Officer (Mr. Dineen) an opportunity to make further inquiries. Two other boys were charged with theft, and admitted being concerned with the disappearance of 4s from a shop till. Neither of the boys had a very good reputation, but it seemed likely that they would reform with firm handling. The Magistrate realised this, and committed one boy to probation for twelve months, the probationary requirements to be of a strict character. The other boy was formally committed to the Neleon Home for Boys, but his Worship agreed to recommend probation.
