DEATH OF A PIONEER FLYER.
Among- the victims of the influenza epidemic was Captain B. C. Hucks, E.A.F. He was one of the pioneers of flying in England, and his technical knowledge and experience were of the utmost importance iv - the development of the Royal Air Force. The eon of a London consulting engineer, he wag born at Stanstead, in Essex, in 1884. After doing a good deal of motoring he attached himself to Mr. Grahame-White, and 6oon became a skilful aviator. He was the first Englishman to " loop the loop ". in England. When the war broke out he joined the Army and went to France. Owing to a breakdown in health he had to return to England, and subsequently he assisted the Air Ministry as an experimental pilot. He also devised a system of droppingbombs from aeroplanes. With all his daring Captain Hucks had the reputation of being one of the steadiest flyers in the Service. He had orie memorable fight with a German pilot, whom he settled with a revolver. It was beforo machine-guns were introduced in aerial warfare.
