PRELIMINARY PARLEY.

The question of reporting the conference between the Minister of Railways and representatives of the Locomotive Enginedrivers, Firemen, and Cleaners' Association was argued at some length yesterday, 'in and. out of the Minister's room. Mr. Herries' said that he was quite prepared to admit the press if the delegates wished to interview him as a deputation, but he did not think it would be helpful to have the press at a round-the-table conference. Eventually the delegates had a private discussion, with the Minister for about two hours on various points that are in dispute. To-day the association's representatives have a conference of their own. They may meet the Minister again soon.a
