The New York Tribune's correspondent in Papeete, Tahiti, states that prominent citizens have addressed a petition to the Prime Minister, the Chamber of -Deputies, and the President of France, asking for, the recall of the Governor and the Chief of the Medical Service in Tahiti because of their neglect of duty during the, influenza epidemic.

[When the Moana arrived at San Francisco on 24th December, it was reported that during the week prior to her arrival at Papeete, 600 people out of the population of 3700 had died, and the epidemic was so serious that no labour was available for work on the islands.
