WELLINGTON SOUTH NURSING

DIVISION.

The sixth annual report of the Wellington South Nui-iiiff Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was presented at the annual meeting of the committee j held-in Newtown Library. Inter alia, the report states that the practices, lectures, and: corps; drills through the year have been fairly well attended, and good work done for the various patriotic, affairs—St Thomas's Flower Show, Red Triangle Day, Red Jersey Day appeal, -French Day, Violet Day, the Jumble Sale held in the Town Hall the following day, besides £45 2s being raised at the Wood-ward-street Shop, throughout the year. Two public demonstrations have, taken place, one at the annual meeting of the association, and another in Newtown* Park on 4th June, in connection with the Red Jersey appeal. The work done on this occasion was complimented by Surgeon-General Henderson-, and ■MajorGeneral Sir Alfred Robin. The squad, consisting of Miss A. Smith, Miss Morrison, Miss Thornton, and Miss M. Fossctti, competed for tho, "Willowbank" Cup at Masterton on Ist January, 1918, and was successful in winning the trophy and individual silver va^es. The annual Platts-Mills Cup Competition, held in September, was won by the squad comprised of Miss A. M. Smith, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Fraser, and Miss M'lnnes. .At tha annual re-examination, also held in September, all were successful in passing. Lectures by.Dr. Arthur on massage, Dr. Line on poisons, and by Lieutenant-Col-onel Holmes, R.A.M.C. (since deceased), on evacuating the wounded at Gallipoli, Romany (Egypt), and Messines, were greatly appreciated. Fifty occurrences have been reported- for the year, and a large amount- of borne nursing performed The division was called out for public duty on 3rd July for a hockey match tit Athletic Park, and on Armistice Day, a number, of cases being attended. During the influenza epidemic of November and December, all members not down with the trouble were nursing privately, were at the temporary hospitals, or at the Public Hospital. Letters of commendation have been received. Thanks are extended to. Mr. Martin, who conducted a Morse signalling class throughout the year, Mr. Ludwig for gratuitously auditing the books, and to Dr. Platts-Mills for conducting the annual rc-examinatinn. Reference is made to the death of Miss Segrief.

Miss Butts were elected on the committee to represent the members of the division, officers of which are as follow:—Mrs. Preston (ladv superintendent), Mrs. Ba.rltrop (acting first officer), Mrs. Gaby (acting second officer), Miss Hustwick (ladv inspector of stores), Miss M. Fossette (lady divisional secretary and treasurer).
