MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Captain W. H. Eennah and Messrs. R. D. Hanlon and W. H. Bennett, J.P.s, presided at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Donald Mathescm, when charged with a fourth offence of drunkenness within a period of not quite a month, pleaded for a chance to leave the town. It was, he said, four years since he had last been in the city, and he had got "badly tangled up." Inspector Marsack said that, in all there were fifty previous convictions of a similai nature against Matheson. A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed, and Matheson was also ordered to pay 17s 6d medical expenses, in default forty-eight hours in gaol. Ernest Nosbitt, charged with the theft of six carburetters, valued at £64 16s, from Beynolds and Company, and Edward Rosenburg, on a charge of receiving the carburetters from Jfesbitt, know-, j ing them to have been dishonestly obtained, Were further remanded for a week, bail being renewed. Peter John Anslow wnl' appear again to-morrow to answer a, charge of having stolen a leather bag and contents, the property of Henry Mulquoen, on 26th July. Milton Oman, who was arrested by Detective Torrance last night' on a charge of obtaining the sum of £15 from Alfred John Carlton, secretary, to the Commercial TravollerB 1 Association, by means of a valueless cheque, was remanded to appear in a week's.time. Bail was allowed in the sum of £25, and one surety of a like amount.
