PRECAUTIONS TAKEN
DAYLIGHT TRIPS THROUGH COOK STRAIT ADVISABLE.
It is officially announced that purely as a matter of precaution, it has been deemed advisable that ships navigating Cook Strait should do so as far as possible during daylight hours. The shipping companies have been invited to conform to this arrangement. It is regretted if any inconvenience to intending passengers is involved. In acordance with this request, the Union Company has decided to despatch the Maori and Mararoa for Lyttelton at 3 p.m. instead of at 7.45 p.m. Cargo will be' received up till 10.30 o'clock in the morning, and the mails in future will close at noon. The late fee mail will close at 1.30 p.m. These arrangements will remain in force until further notice. No decision regarding the Pateena's running has yet been arrived at. * When a Post reporter made enquiries regarding the position of the Nikau and Kaitoa, which generally leave for Nelson and Motueka at 5 p.m., he was informed that up to,the present time no alteration in the service had been decided upon.
