PETONE v. ORIENTALS
TO THE EDITOK. '
! Sir,—l have read with interest and a certain amount of amusement the remarks of your correspondent '"A Visitor" 'of his . impressions of the above match. I accept his statement that lie I has witnessed first-class football in all tlio centres, but when he. says he has no- ! where ..witnessed such a- rough exhibition as'he did on Saturday, I think he is overstepping the- mark. I observe that no reference is made to stoppages of play owing to disablement of Petone players, although if my memory serves me rightly, at least the first and' last occasions were due to this cause. True, the spectators gave vent to their feelings by groaning and hooting, but let me assure "A Visitor"'that this is not altogether -uncommon, and, in my opinion, is not likely to improve matters. lam as keen as anyone to "keep Rugby as it should be," but this will" never be atr tamed by casting reflections on referees or by writing letters which" are possible of conveying other than a fair statement of the facts.—l am, etc/, .:-.--> ::;v~ BE(GKJI^;ATraNDEjR~i; 17th July. ■*■"* '
