Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., this morning heard further evidence and legal argument in regard to a civil action taken by Bernard Brooks, a kinematograph operator, against the Crown Theatre Company, Ltd., for the recovery of £19 10s, being a month's salary in lieu of notice. Mr. T. Weave appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. A. W. Blair for the defendant company. For the plaintiff it hvas held that he had been dismissed on 13th May without the month's notice stipulated for in his agreement with the company, and it was held for the defence that Brooks had been guilty of negligence to properly carry out his work.' Judgment was reserved. The report received by Mr. S. R. Dickinson, Principal of St. Andrew's College, Christchurch, formerly of Scots College, Wellington—that his sister, Sister Ruby Dickinson, had died on active service—proves to be incorrect. Another nurse of the same Christian name and surname died while on military duty, and for a time it was thought in New Zealand that the lady was Mr. Dickinson's sister.

Mr. James Bedggood, sen. 1, who died at Springfield, near Kerikeri, last week, aged 83 years, was born in London, but, as an infant, came to New Zealand in 1836. His father was a member of the early missionary staff, and later built a flour mill at Waimate, where it still stands. ■ Mr. Bedggood married the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. King,- who were members of the party which landed with the Rev. Samuel Marsden on Christmas Day, 1814, and who took part in the first service in New Zealand. Messrs. B. Johnston ajid Co. will sell to-morrow, at 1 o'clock, in their rooms, furnituro, piano.
