(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT^ (ACSTRALIAN-NjW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received July 16, 2.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, loth July. The United Press correspondent on the American front says that the German drive extends from west of Chateau Thierry to east of Reims. There is bitter fighting, especially'at Chateau Thierry. The Germans crossed the Marne at three places—at Mezy, La Brettonmere Farm, and Jaulgonne—by throwing pontoons across the river, under fierce fire. The Americans quickly recovered the ground at Chateau Thierry, and then forced the enemy back half a mile beyond his original line. Military officers in Washington Tegard the drive as Germany's. last desperate attempt. They believe that Germany will push on the offensive, regardless of losses, but. are confident she will not reach her objectives.
