I RECORD OP WORK.
T.he report of the St. John Ambulance Association (Wellington Centre) for the oeiiod since: the outbreak of the war iiaikes interesting reading. Under the heading "Educational" it says:—"This has been the association's chief work prior to the war. Since then the attendance at classes, especially in first-aid to "the injured, has ■ increased' greatly. Thiee thousand three hundred and nineteen- men and ■women have attended the classes; 2545 have obtained certificates, an 3 245 the medallion.. Classes have been carried on in connection with the Police and Railway Departments, City Tramway, Harbour Board, Technical and private schools, Home of Compassion, and Y.W.C.A. The scheme of the late secretary, Mr. Bambridge, of a etemp fund by letter-card, proved very successful in quickly raising a considerable sum, which enabled the committee to«remit amounts to St. John's Gate, Lcpdon, and to respond.to other urgent demands. Red CVoss Day resulted in the sum of £1869 being forwarded, and the association supplied some of the requirements to the First and Second Stationary Hospitals, the work being organised and successfully carried out by Mrs. A. H. Waters. The association also supplied articles valued at £3500, arid many thousand bandages, to New Zealand hospital ship No. 1. Articles and bandage* to the value of £227 were forwarded to New Zealand Hospital, Pfiht de Koubbeh. The appeal of the Viceroy of Tndia for suitable food for invalid soldiers resulted in a supply being forwarded to Mesopotamia. The association also undertook to furnish sixty beds on, the hospital ship Marama. The association, realising the need for more nrfotor ambulances for our men at the front, agreed that the secretary (Mr. J^ B. Finlay),, should- visit country districts, addressing meetings of St. John Ambulance Red Cross workers and ap-, pealing to patriotic societies. This Mr. Finlav did. with tha result that a dozen .ambulances were sent to France in time for the big push on the Sorame. In the report for the year, ended 31st March last, the .committee acknowledges with %i.nk(s receipt, ol £25 from tlieY.M. CrA., and" £50-from the Macarthy Trustees towards the.'educaiional work of the association. The number _ attending classes during: the year was 371, the numbeT examined 349, the number passed 240.
