ENEMY ACROSS THE RIVER
AMERICANS HEAVILY ATTACKED

NEW YORK, 15th July, ffhe United Press 'Agency's correspondent at Paris states that the Germans are violently attacking the French on a fifty-mile front, north-east of Chateau Thierry. LONDON, 15th July. The Germans also attacked the Americans at Chateau Thierry. The Germans are" heavily attacking the Americans at iVaux. The situation is satisfactory. The Americans made a successful counter-attack in the Yaux region. The Germans are reported to have crossed the Marne by many bridges, in spite of the American resistance. - A new German offensive has begun in the 'Argonne (forty miles east of Reims). . : (Received July 16, 11 a.m.) . LONDON, 15th" July. There is a .bitter battle around Dormans (twelve miles east of Chateau Thierry), where the Germans are seeking to cross the Maine. The Americans counter-attacked at Chateau Thierry, and drove back the Germans 700 yards.
