IMPERIAL WOOL PURCHASE.

(IT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

MASTERTON, 13th July. The following motion was passed at a meeting of the Masterton A.' and P. Association to-day : "That this association recognises the obligation of the farming community of New Zealand to the Imperial Government and the Imperial Navy for facilities fnr marketing wool and other produce during the war, and is perfectly satisfied with the terms arranged by the New Zealand Government with the Imperial authorities in commandeering -wool for the duration of the war and for one year thereafter." GISBORNE, 13th July. The executive of the Farmers' Union, after discussing the wool .purchase scheme, carried a motion by eight votes to four on similar lines to that passed by the wool-growers last Saturday.

WAIROA, This Day. Mr.- W. D. Lysnar addressed a fairly large meeting of Wairoa farmers on Saturday afternoon on the wool " commandeer." He spoke for two hours, setting out the position as detailed in his addresses elsewhere. He emphasised that there was no justification for the high prices of certain lines in England or here, the farmers getting only 2d per lb for hides over pre-war, rates, yet boots had gone up by 20s a pair. The farmers were getting Is 2|d for wool, yet the public" paid 9s 6d a lb for wool retail. He claimed that the National Government should investigate the middleman's profit. A motion was carried on the lines of that passed by the Dannevirke meeting. The chairman of the Farmers' Union moved to draw the attention of the Government to the high prices of leather and woollen goods compared to the cost of raw materials, and if any profiteering was proved the Government be asked to limit retail prices. The motion was carried.
