LOWER HUTT AUTUMN SHOW
The Hutt Valley Horticultural Society's Autumn Show will be held in the Drill Hall, Victoria-street, Lower Hutt, nest Wednesday. The official opening is to take place at 3 p.m., when the Hon. T. M. Wilford-will officiate. Like the spring show, the autumn display is very popular in the Valley and m the City, as the chrysanthemum (the queen of autumn flowers) has many admirers and devotees. Then the dahlia has its fcnthusiastic supporters, and growers. The stands of these flowers will he up to tho usual good standard of excellence, and besides. Hie usual exhibitors in tho open, amateur, and novice classes, other growers have intimated their intention of competing, so that the floral display should prove worthy of a visit from every admiral- of flowers. In addition to ■the customary display of cut flowers and pot plants, another feature of the show will be the exhibits of home industries and garden products section, which promises to be well supported so far as tho number of exhibits is concerned. Several local amateurs . wiJl contribute musical items during the afternoon, and in tho evening the local Boy Scouts' Orchestra will play selections, so that the musical portion of the show will also be of interest. Lady helpers are arranging a flower stall, and afternoon tea will be dispensed by Miss Hayward and her band of willing helpers. The profits : accruing from the show are, to be handed to tho Wounded Soldiers' I'und" and itis hoped a substantial amount will bo added to that already provided for the fund—namely, some £250. Besides the usual afternoon and evening train service, motor-buses will be running between the City and Lower Hutt, passing tha hall en route.
